I love celebrating everything. It is a great excuse to visit family and friends or a great pin in the calendar to get away with your partner to celebrate an anniversary. I have been looking forward to mine and K.C.’s 2nd anniversary this year because we planned it months ago and the weather was looking to be the most perfect fall weekend. Chilly but still warm and with some beautiful fall color change. We decided to do a little re-creation of our wedding weekend by visiting the beautiful North Georgia city of Jasper, GA where we got married and enjoy some of the same spots that made our wedding weekend so special.
We started off our anniversary celebration by visiting Fainting Goats Vineyards. On our wedding weekend, we went to Fainting Goats after our rehearsal so we could catch up with family and friends who traveled in for the big day. It was a zero stress place to just relax, enjoy some wine, and enjoy the views. Plus, a lot of our wedding guests came from out west so I was glad they could see our tree covered mountains here.
After some wine and lots of snacks, we went to where we had our rehearsal dinner 2 years ago- which was just a few minutes away at The Old Mulehouse. It was a huge challenge when planning our wedding to find rehearsal dinner space big enough, in budget, and close to where everyone was staying for the weekend. The Old Mulehouse came through and treated us like family during the whole planning process. Plus the food was amazing and we were itching to come back. We had the best dinner and near the end our waiter came by and presented us with a “Happy Anniversary” card that was signed by the staff, a gift card, and two glasses of champagne. And full disclosure, I did indicate that it was our anniversary and that our rehearsal dinner was held there when making the reservation BUT I was only maybe hoping we’d get a good seat in the restaurant. I did not expect the sweet gesture. We decided to save the gift card for another trip so we can see them again.
Then on our actual anniversary a few days later on the 23rd, we had a super low key day but made it extra special by making a small version of our wedding cake to share. Our wedding cake was a marble cake with a chocolate ganache and toffee filling and covered with buttercream. The best! Last year, K.C. surprised me with a mini top tier from the bakery that made our cake-just in case our frozen one was gross. After that, we decided to re-make it every year as a tradition. The photo I have is not glamorous because we were very excited to eat it and we will make tweaks next year but the recipe that we used was solid and will never use another. The Preppy Kitchen’s recipe was easy, flavorful (you can actually taste the chocolate marble), and “fool” proof. Can’t wait to re-make it next year.
Again, celebrations give us an excuse and a reminder to do something special. It can be super simple, like dinner with your partner at your favorite restaurant, or more extravagant, like a long weekend trip out of town. As long as it makes you feel happy, it will be perfect.
